Revision rhinoplasty after inflammation: distinguishing past history from current findings

Records of revision rhinoplasty related to inflammation include both past experiences of inflammation and inflammatory findings observed at the time of surgery. While some cases focus on addressing contracture tissue and damaged cartilage in light of multiple prior surgeries and a history of inflammation, others directly document open skin areas as well as inflammation and granulation tissue around implants.

On this page, we distinguish between preoperative medical history and current surgical findings so that the current state is not judged solely by the word "inflammation." In particular, when the text links cartilage damage or contracture to past inflammation, consider whether it describes direct observations in that patient or the surgeon's clinical deduction. Checking what materials were removed and how the nose was reconstructed helps clarify the specific goals of the surgery.

Why implant inflammation recurs, and how staged reconstruction with a resting period is performed

A case of staged nasal reconstruction for a nose damaged by recurrent implant inflammation. After foreign body removal, a 2-year resting period, and stem cell therapy, the structure was rebuilt using donor rib cartilage and an implant was inserted.

Why nasal tip skin depresses and implants show through after inflammation, and how to reconstruct it

A case where repeated surgeries and inflammation led to depressed nasal tip skin and implant show-through. The damaged skin was revised, dermal and cartilage grafts were placed, the septum was reinforced with autologous rib cartilage, and the implant was replaced.

Why donor dermis absorbs after multiple revision surgeries and how to reconstruct the septum

For a patient who experienced partial absorption of donor dermis on the nasal bridge and septal damage after multiple revision surgeries, the donor dermis was removed, the septum was reconstructed with autologous rib cartilage, and the skin was reinforced with retroauricular dermis.

Common questions before reading the cases

Does being categorized under inflammation cases mean there is an active infection right now?

Not necessarily. This list also includes records where revision surgery was planned based on a past history of inflammation. One case notes that, taking into account multiple prior surgeries and previous inflammation, the focus was placed on removing contracted scar tissue and reconstructing cartilage. Distinguishing between a past history of inflammation and findings observed during the current surgery prevents misunderstanding the patient's current condition.

What can be observed in cases where both implant exposure and inflammation are documented?

One post documents an opening of approximately 0.5 mm in the nasal tip skin, alongside inflammation and granulation tissue spreading between the implant and grafted fat. It then describes damage to the septum and surrounding cartilage confirmed after removing that tissue. Following this sequence—skin findings, internal findings, removal, and reconstruction—reveals a clinical context very different from a simple implant exchange.
