Nasal implant and filler foreign body reactions: records of identified materials and tissue changes

Cases addressing foreign body reactions link what was previously placed with what was identified during surgery. Examples include instances where threads and filler were confirmed in the nasal bridge and removed, where changes and granulation tissue around a silicone implant were noted, and where serous fluid was identified and sent for bacterial culture.

In particular, distinguish between expressions indicating that a foreign body was suspected on examination and statements that materials were confirmed during surgery. The original records also present cases where a chronic foreign body reaction was not equated with purulent discharge. By detailing the remaining materials, tissue changes, diagnostic tests, removal, and irrigation together, this page allows you to evaluate the internal condition beyond just external irregularities.

Why internal nasal structures collapse after multiple rhinoplasties and total reconstruction with rib cartilage

Following four prior rhinoplasties, septal and lower lateral cartilage defects and nasal bone erosion were addressed by treating a chronic foreign body reaction, performing total reconstruction with autologous rib cartilage, and placing a nostril skin graft.

Foreign materials from illegal procedures in the nasal bridge: how to perform removal and total septal reconstruction

We removed foreign materials from illegal injections in the nasal bridge, completely reconstructed the cartilage-depleted septum using autologous rib cartilage, and performed dermal grafting on the thinned skin.

Why a mass obstructing the nostril develops, and how to perform resection and reconstruction

This is a case where a chronic inflammatory mass that developed after repeated surgeries and obstructed the nostril was precisely resected, restoring breathing function and stabilizing the nasal tip structure.

Why the nose looks crooked and the columella tilts to one side, and how to correct it

A mobile silicone implant, a tilted columella, and a crooked nasal bridge were corrected through the removal of the existing implant and foreign material, lateral osteotomy, and septal reinforcement using autologous rib cartilage.

Why nostrils narrow after illegal injections by unlicensed practitioners, and methods for removal and reconstruction

In a patient who developed nostril stenosis and a drooping tip from illegal injections administered by an unlicensed practitioner 20 years ago, we removed the foreign material and reconstructed the septum and lower lateral cartilage using autologous rib cartilage to improve the nasal shape.

Why contracture and a crooked nose occur after repeated revision rhinoplasty, and how they are corrected

A case of improving an upturned tip, crooked nose, and nostril asymmetry that developed after four prior nasal surgeries and filler injections, using foreign material removal, septal extension with autologous rib cartilage, and silicone implant supplementation.

Why the nose becomes upturned and shortened after illegal injection procedures, and how foreign body removal and reconstruction are performed

A case where purulent foreign material injected into the nasal bridge during an illegal procedure was removed, contracted skin was released, and an upturned nasal tip and bridge line were reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage and a silicone implant.

Chronic foreign body reaction causing a blunt, widened nasal bridge: causes and reconstruction methods

This is a revision rhinoplasty case in which a septum damaged from prior double jaw surgery and a chronic foreign body reaction in the nasal bridge were identified, followed by irrigation, capsule removal, and septal reconstruction using autologous rib cartilage.

Why a wide nasal bridge and upturned nasal tip develop, and how rib cartilage reconstruction is performed

For a wide nasal bridge and an upturned nasal tip resulting from repeated surgeries and nasal bridge thread-lifting procedures, foreign material was removed, lateral osteotomy was performed, and septal reconstruction was carried out by recycling existing autologous rib cartilage and supplementing with donor rib cartilage.

Why a thick columella and upturned nasal tip develop, and how autologous rib cartilage reconstruction is performed

A case of an upturned nose with septal damage and contracture deformity from repeated surgeries, where the septum and lower lateral cartilages were reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage along with columellar width correction.

How to correct a contracted nose and inflammation caused by residual foreign material

Contracture and septal defect developed due to residual mesh and a foreign body reaction from previous surgeries. We removed the remaining foreign material, reconstructed the septum using autologous rib cartilage, and performed a skin graft to the columella.

How to reconstruct with autologous rib cartilage after silicone implant side effects

In a revision rhinoplasty case presenting with tip redness, cartilage resorption from a silicone foreign body reaction, rhinitis, and a deviated septum, silicone implant exchange was performed in conjunction with septal reconstruction using autologous rib cartilage and rhinitis surgery.

Foreign body removal and autologous rib cartilage revision rhinoplasty for chronic foreign body reaction and a long nose

This is a case where a silicone implant shifted almost to the point of extruding through the columella due to a chronic foreign body reaction. The silicone implant, granulation tissue, and glabella filler were removed, and the depleted septum from previous surgery was reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage.

Common questions before reading the cases

Does the term foreign body reaction mean the same thing as a bacterial infection?

At least in these records, the terms are clearly distinguished. In one case, serous fluid was identified around an implant and sent for bacterial culture, and the surgeon recorded it as a chronic foreign body reaction rather than purulent pus. However, requesting a culture test does not indicate a final confirmed bacterial result. It is necessary to read and separate the observational findings from the diagnostic wording as written in the record.

Are the foreign materials suspected on CT and the actual materials removed considered separate stages?

Yes. In a case involving recurrent foreign body reactions and a history of nasal bridge thread placement, foreign materials were suspected on the CT scan, and threads and filler were subsequently confirmed and removed during surgery. The presumption at the diagnostic evaluation stage is recorded separately from the intraoperative confirmation. Rather than assuming what materials remain based solely on past procedure names, one can review the clinical evidence used for confirmation.
