Hello, I am Dr. Peter C. Kang.

Today, I would like to share the case of a patient whose severe foreign body issues and upturned nose deformity caused by an illegal procedure—a so-called uncertified injection—were successfully addressed. This was a distinctive case where the patient had suffered for a prolonged period due to an illegal procedure performed in a public bathhouse after standard surgery 20 years ago.

📍 Surgical history

  • 20 years ago: Rhinoplasty with an L-shaped silicone implant

  • 17 years ago: Illegal injection procedure on the nasal bridge performed in a public bathhouse

This was a distinctive case requiring the resolution of complex issues stemming from an illegal, uncertified procedure. During the nasal tip dissection, unexpected purulent foreign material was identified, leading to bacterial testing, and all foreign material was completely removed.

It was necessary to release as much of the nasal bridge skin as possible, which had contracted from long-standing foreign body and inflammatory reactions, and autologous rib cartilage was used to correct the upturned nasal tip stably. A silicone implant was used on the nasal bridge to create a natural line.

Improper illegal procedures can cause severe long-term complications. For health and safety, I always advise receiving verified treatments at professional medical institutions. If you have any questions regarding rhinoplasty, please feel free to visit NOSELAB.

Limitations and risks

When autologous rib cartilage is used, scarring and pain may remain at the donor site on the chest, and pneumothorax (pleural injury) can occur rarely. Over time, the grafted cartilage may warp or undergo partial resorption.

When foreign materials such as injected fillers are removed and reconstructed, contracture may recur, nasal height and length may decrease, and staged surgery may be necessary depending on the skin condition.

Common potential risks include infection, bleeding, asymmetry, scarring, skin necrosis, and insufficient improvement; results vary depending on individual skin condition and previous surgical history.
