Autologous rib cartilage rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty cases

People often search for autologous rib cartilage either because they wish to elevate the nasal tip or because they lack sufficient remaining cartilage after multiple surgeries. This collection includes cases where the patient's own rib cartilage was used while correcting nostril asymmetry and nasal obstruction at the same time, as well as records of staged surgeries for noses deformed by contracture.

Seeing autologous rib cartilage in the title does not necessarily mean it was newly harvested in the current surgery. There are also cases where previous autologous rib cartilage was carefully removed and reused as a secondary material, with donor rib cartilage serving as the primary material. Distinguishing between current use, past surgical history, and removal records helps you find the cases most relevant to your desired material.

Why an implant is palpable and visible through the nasal tip: rib cartilage reconstruction and dermis reinforcement

A case where a silicone implant became palpable, the nasal tip skin thinned, and asymmetry developed after a previous rhinoplasty. The implant was removed, the nasal tip and septum were reconstructed using sliced autologous rib cartilage, and artificial dermis was used for reinforcement.

Why a high radix makes the nose look long and overly prominent

Following prior surgeries, a bulbous and drooping long nose with an excessively high radix and nasal obstruction was corrected using a closed approach. Scar tissue debridement, osteotomy, nasolabial angle correction, and septoplasty were performed concurrently.

Why mesh remaining in the septum causes an upturned nose, and reconstruction after removal

This is a case where mesh left in the septum after previous surgeries resulted in an upturned nose and excessive nostril show. All foreign material was removed, followed by septal reconstruction using autologous rib cartilage, replacement of the silicone implant, and reinforcement of the skin with acellular dermal matrix.

Why a nose becomes upturned and the columella retracts after repeated revisions, and how to reconstruct the septum

A case where damage from previous surgeries led to collapse of the anterior septum and nostril asymmetry. The septum was reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage, followed by nasal tip rhinoplasty with donor rib cartilage and implant replacement.

Why a narrow nasolabial angle with a dorsal hump makes the mouth appear protruding and how to correct it

This is a primary rhinoplasty case correcting an irregular dorsal hump and an acute nasolabial angle. Using a closed approach, we refined the dorsal hump, performed nasal tip plasty with autologous rib cartilage, reconstructed the septum, placed a silicone implant, and corrected the nasolabial angle.

Why the nasal tip can look bulbous and crooked after rhinoplasty with ear cartilage

This is a revision rhinoplasty case where the patient experienced a drooping tip, a deviated septum, and nasal obstruction after previous surgery. Common questions before reading the cases

Are there cases of revision rhinoplasty performed after an earlier surgery with autologous rib cartilage?

There are records where contracture deformities were first corrected using autologous rib cartilage, followed by a second surgery to refine the shape. Cases where previously placed autologous rib cartilage was removed and reused as a supporting material are also introduced separately. Rather than just focusing on the term revision rhinoplasty, it is helpful to review both the objective of the initial surgery and the structural changes made in the current procedure.

If autologous rib cartilage is in the title, does it mean the patient's own cartilage was newly harvested this time?

That is not always the case. Among the compiled cases, there are records where donor rib cartilage was used as the primary material for patients concerned about cartilage harvesting, while previously placed autologous rib cartilage was reused secondarily. Because materials used in the current surgery and remaining materials from past surgeries may appear together in the same article, it is important to read through the surgical procedure section.
