Donor rib cartilage rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty records

The location where donor rib cartilage is used and its role vary by case. While some posts describe filling part of the nasal bridge to refine the profile line, other records show revision rhinoplasty performed with autologous rib cartilage due to changes in previously placed donor rib cartilage. The same material name may refer both to a current choice and to past surgical history.

In cases where existing cartilage was removed and new donor rib cartilage was fixed at a different location, the fixation site and the symptoms reported by the patient provide more critical context than the name of the material itself. Review the photos to see which cartilage was preserved and which was replaced. Records of resorption or pain in individual posts should not be generalized as the outcome for every surgery using donor rib cartilage.

Why the nasal tip turns up and the columella droops, and how septal extension is performed

A case where a short, upturned nasal tip and a drooping columella in an unoperated nose were corrected through septal extension. A strut was built using donor rib cartilage and septal cartilage, accompanied by columellar elevation and silicone implant placement.

Why a nose becomes upturned and the columella retracts after repeated revisions, and how to reconstruct the septum

A case where damage from previous surgeries led to collapse of the anterior septum and nostril asymmetry. The septum was reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage, followed by nasal tip rhinoplasty with donor rib cartilage and implant replacement.

Why implant inflammation recurs, and how staged reconstruction with a resting period is performed

A case of staged nasal reconstruction for a nose damaged by recurrent implant inflammation. After foreign body removal, a 2-year resting period, and stem cell therapy, the structure was rebuilt using donor rib cartilage and an implant was inserted.

Why a operated nose deviates and nostrils become asymmetric after physical trauma, and how septal reconstruction is performed

A case where post-surgical trauma caused a septal tear, resulting in a crooked nose and nostril asymmetry. Septal reconstruction was performed using autologous rib cartilage, along with realigning the columellar central axis and replacing the implant.

Changes that occur when an implant is positioned high and deviated: methods for replacement and bulbous tip correction

A high, deviated silicone implant was replaced to lower the radix, and septal extension was performed using donor rib cartilage. Partial soft tissue resection, cartilage tie, and rhinitis surgery addressed the bulbous tip and nasal obstruction.

Why the nose looks short and the columella retracts after revision rhinoplasty, and how to reconstruct the septum

To correct septal cartilage loss from 3 prior surgeries, a short nose appearance, and a bulbous tip, the septum was reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage and the radix was lowered.

Why a multiply operated nose deviates and develops a widened tip, and how cartilage is reconstructed

Following three prior procedures, a deviated nose caused by septal damage and a missing right lower lateral cartilage was restored through autologous rib cartilage structural reconstruction, silicone implant replacement, nasolabial angle correction, and rhinitis surgery.

Why the nasal tip can remain upturned after revision rhinoplasty, and when donor rib cartilage is used

An upturned and deviated nose, accompanied by hesitation toward autologous rib cartilage due to past pneumothorax, was improved without implants using donor rib cartilage, recycled previous rib cartilage, nasal bone rasping, and nasolabial angle correction.

Why a nose can look short and upturned after repeated surgeries, and how rib cartilage tip extension works

Through a closed approach, a nose that became low, upturned, and showed excessive nostril exposure after silicone implant removal was refined using autologous rib cartilage tip extension, nasal bridge height restoration, and correction of the nasolabial angle to 90 degrees.

Why a nose operated on multiple times continues to appear upturned, and how septal reconstruction is performed

Following previous surgeries and double-jaw surgery, an upturned nasal tip and nostril asymmetry were precisely corrected using donor rib cartilage septal reconstruction, lower lateral cartilage restoration, and a composite dermis-fat graft to the soft triangle.

Why a crooked nose and dorsal hump appear together, and how to approach male rhinoplasty

In a male patient in his early 20s presenting with a crooked nose, dorsal hump, and nasal obstruction, osteotomy, tip rhinoplasty using donor rib cartilage and septal cartilage, and columellar correction were performed.

Why a high radix makes the nose look artificial: septal reconstruction and radix correction methods

A deviated septum and an excessively high radix resulting from a previous surgery were precisely corrected using donor rib cartilage septal reconstruction, silicone implant replacement, osteotomy, and inferior turbinate reduction.

Why the nasal bridge deviates and the tip appears drooping: How to correct it using only cartilage without implants

For a patient who wanted primary rhinoplasty without artificial implants, lateral osteotomy was performed to straighten the deviated nasal bones, and donor rib cartilage and septal cartilage were used to reinforce the bridge and reshape the nasal tip.

In a patient presenting with columellar retraction and a pinched right alar rim following rhinoplasty with silicone and donor rib cartilage, the existing materials were removed and reconstruction of the septum and alar cartilage was performed using autologous rib cartilage.

Common questions before reading the cases

How do you distinguish between cases operated on with donor rib cartilage and cases where it was changed to autologous rib cartilage?

You can first look at the surgical section describing the materials used in the current procedure. This collection includes both surgeries where donor rib cartilage was partially filled into the nasal bridge, and posts where revision rhinoplasty was performed with autologous rib cartilage after resorption or deformation of previous donor rib cartilage was noted. Even if both materials appear in the title, distinguishing the timeframe of each material helps avoid confusion.

If donor rib cartilage is removed, is it always replaced with another material?

The featured records also include cases where existing donor rib cartilage was removed and new donor rib cartilage was fixed in a different area. That post explains both the location where pain was reported and the fixation site of the previous cartilage. The material selected after removal and the method of fixation should be confirmed in each surgical record, and a single case cannot be considered a universal principle for replacement.
