Ear cartilage rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty cases

Simply stating that ear cartilage was used does not mean the entire nasal tip was supported with ear cartilage. In actual cases, ear cartilage was grafted onto the anterior alar rim to lower the nostril rim, while the opposite side of the same patient was addressed by repositioning the lower lateral cartilage. This is why the material name and the specific graft site must be considered together.

Ear cartilage may also appear as a past surgical history rather than a material used in the current procedure, as in cases where patients seek correction for a long nose after prior surgery with septal and ear cartilage. Records detailing the removal or reuse of existing tissue have also been compiled. Choose which articles to read based on whether you are looking for current ear cartilage use or revision of nasal shape after past ear cartilage surgery.

Key considerations when revising ear cartilage rhinoplasty with autologous rib cartilage

A case of a patient seeking a slimmer line after a previous rhinoplasty. Nasal tip reconstruction with autologous rib cartilage, nasal bridge implant replacement with lowering of the radix, nasal sill reduction, and full-face autologous fat grafting were performed together.

Why an implant is palpable and visible through the nasal tip: rib cartilage reconstruction and dermis reinforcement

A case where a silicone implant became palpable, the nasal tip skin thinned, and asymmetry developed after a previous rhinoplasty. The implant was removed, the nasal tip and septum were reconstructed using sliced autologous rib cartilage, and artificial dermis was used for reinforcement.

Why mesh remaining in the septum causes an upturned nose, and reconstruction after removal

This is a case where mesh left in the septum after previous surgeries resulted in an upturned nose and excessive nostril show. All foreign material was removed, followed by septal reconstruction using autologous rib cartilage, replacement of the silicone implant, and reinforcement of the skin with acellular dermal matrix.

Why a nose becomes upturned and the columella retracts after repeated revisions, and how to reconstruct the septum

A case where damage from previous surgeries led to collapse of the anterior septum and nostril asymmetry. The septum was reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage, followed by nasal tip rhinoplasty with donor rib cartilage and implant replacement.

A case correcting an upturned nasal tip caused by loss of the septum from repeated revision surgeries. Autologous rib cartilage septal reconstruction, nasal mucosal advancement flap, silicone implant adjustment, and rhinitis surgery were performed concurrently.

Why implant inflammation recurs, and how staged reconstruction with a resting period is performed

A case of staged nasal reconstruction for a nose damaged by recurrent implant inflammation. After foreign body removal, a 2-year resting period, and stem cell therapy, the structure was rebuilt using donor rib cartilage and an implant was inserted.

Why the nasal tip can look bulbous and crooked after rhinoplasty with ear cartilage

This is a revision rhinoplasty case where the patient experienced a drooping tip, a deviated septum, and nasal obstruction after previous surgery. The septum was reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage, and silicone implant replacement along with rhinitis surgery was performed using a closed approach.

Why nasal tip skin depresses and implants show through after inflammation, and how to reconstruct it

A case where repeated surgeries and inflammation led to depressed nasal tip skin and implant show-through. The damaged skin was revised, dermal and cartilage grafts were placed, the septum was reinforced with autologous rib cartilage, and the implant was replaced.

Why a nose operated on twice looks long and drooping, and how septal reconstruction using rib cartilage is performed

A revision rhinoplasty case where the septum was depleted due to excessive cartilage use in prior surgeries. The septum was reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage, a cartilage fragment on the bridge was removed, and silicone implant replacement was combined with osteotomy.

Changes that occur when an implant is positioned high and deviated: methods for replacement and bulbous tip correction

A high, deviated silicone implant was replaced to lower the radix, and septal extension was performed using donor rib cartilage. Partial soft tissue resection, cartilage tie, and rhinitis surgery addressed the bulbous tip and nasal obstruction.

Why the nasal tip deviates to one side after rhinoplasty and methods for reconstructing its support structure

Septal cartilage damaged from previous surgeries was reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage, and the lower lateral cartilages were restored. Lateral osteotomy and rhinitis surgery were performed concurrently to correct the crooked nose and nostril asymmetry.

Common questions before reading the cases

Where was ear cartilage used in these cases?

In a representative record, ear cartilage was grafted to the anterior portion of one alar rim to correct a nostril that appeared pointed from the front. On the opposite side, the existing lower lateral cartilage was repositioned to achieve the same objective. Because techniques can differ between the left and right sides, the overall approach to the nasal tip cannot be judged solely by the mention of ear cartilage as a material.

Are there revision rhinoplasty cases where the nose still appears long even after surgery with ear cartilage?

There are records of patients presenting with concerns about a nose that still looked long even after filler removal and rhinoplasty using septal and ear cartilage. In such cases, ear cartilage was the material from the previous surgery. When reading the relevant articles, you can distinguish what was used in the past from how the length and nasal tip direction were addressed in the current surgery.
