Silicone rhinoplasty and implant revision rhinoplasty cases

Silicone implants may be newly inserted materials or existing materials removed during revision rhinoplasty. You can review cases where a thin silicone implant was placed to smooth irregularities along the nasal bridge after trimming a dorsal hump, alongside cases where an existing implant that extended down to the nasal tip was removed. It helps to first distinguish the area of use and the timing of the surgery.

Some articles describe implant displacement, reddish skin discoloration, or an implant that could be felt near the columella. These reflect the individual patient's condition at the time of presentation and do not represent the outcome for every nose with a silicone implant. Understanding not only what was placed on the nasal bridge, but also how the tip cartilage and skin were managed, will help you better understand the changes shown in the photos.

Why implants alone should not be placed in a small, low nose and nasal tip support structure

A primary rhinoplasty case involving a small, low nose and an upturned tip causing excessive nostril show. Using a closed approach, septal reconstruction with autologous rib cartilage, nasolabial angle correction, artificial dermis skin reinforcement, and a silicone implant were performed.

Why mesh remaining in the septum causes an upturned nose, and reconstruction after removal

This is a case where mesh left in the septum after previous surgeries resulted in an upturned nose and excessive nostril show. All foreign material was removed, followed by septal reconstruction using autologous rib cartilage, replacement of the silicone implant, and reinforcement of the skin with acellular dermal matrix.

Why a nose becomes upturned and the columella retracts after repeated revisions, and how to reconstruct the septum

A case where damage from previous surgeries led to collapse of the anterior septum and nostril asymmetry. The septum was reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage, followed by nasal tip rhinoplasty with donor rib cartilage and implant replacement.

Why a narrow nasolabial angle with a dorsal hump makes the mouth appear protruding and how to correct it

This is a primary rhinoplasty case correcting an irregular dorsal hump and an acute nasolabial angle. Using a closed approach, we refined the dorsal hump, performed nasal tip plasty with autologous rib cartilage, reconstructed the septum, placed a silicone implant, and corrected the nasolabial angle.

A case correcting an upturned nasal tip caused by loss of the septum from repeated revision surgeries. Autologous rib cartilage septal reconstruction, nasal mucosal advancement flap, silicone implant adjustment, and rhinitis surgery were performed concurrently.

Common questions before reading the cases

Does rhinoplasty using a silicone implant always augment the same area?

The archive includes cases where a thin silicone implant was used to smooth the nasal bridge surface after trimming a dorsal hump. In contrast, revision rhinoplasty cases include descriptions where an existing implant had been placed all the way down to the nasal tip. Even with the same material name, the length, position, and accompanying tip surgery can differ, so it is helpful to read the surgical notes alongside the photos.

How can I distinguish between silicone removal and replacement cases?

You can distinguish between the step of removing an existing implant and the material newly inserted after removal. This page broadly gathers silicone-related histories and usage records, while actual removal surgeries or replacement procedures can be explored more specifically under linked topics. A statement noting implant removal does not necessarily mean the final outcome is an implant-free nose.
