Dorsal hump correction and bridge line surgery

Cases of dorsal hump reduction are easier to understand when you look at the original nasal size and overall profile rather than focusing solely on the protruding area. In smaller noses, the surgical records show that we do not simply reduce the hump, but also address the overall volume. You can also read cases where facial asymmetry and the patient's desired nasal line were taken into account.

There are also articles detailing cases where, after smoothing down the dorsal hump, a silicone implant tailored to the shape of the nasal bone was placed on the bridge. Therefore, having a dorsal hump reduced does not mean the entire nasal bridge was lowered. When reviewing before-and-after photos, please refer to the original articles to see which areas were reduced and which were augmented, and whether tip reshaping or crooked (deviated) nose correction was performed simultaneously.

Why a narrow nasolabial angle with a dorsal hump makes the mouth appear protruding and how to correct it

This is a primary rhinoplasty case correcting an irregular dorsal hump and an acute nasolabial angle. Using a closed approach, we refined the dorsal hump, performed nasal tip plasty with autologous rib cartilage, reconstructed the septum, placed a silicone implant, and corrected the nasolabial angle.

Why a dorsal hump looks prominent and how to correct it along with the nasal tip

Previously injected nasal filler was removed, the protruding dorsal hump was rasped, and lateral osteotomies were performed. The blunt nasal tip was elevated using autologous rib cartilage, and both the nasolabial angle and septum were corrected.

Nasal obstruction, a dorsal hump, and maxillary protrusion caused by a septum severely deviated to the left were addressed simultaneously through septal reconstruction using autologous rib cartilage, lateral osteotomy, and nasolabial angle correction.

Why a crooked dorsal hump and drooping tip occur, and how septal extension is performed

A crooked dorsal hump, drooping tip, and nasal obstruction were refined using lateral osteotomy, septal extension with donor rib cartilage and septal cartilage, nasal tip volume refinement with ear cartilage, and nasolabial angle correction.

Why artificial dermis on the nasal bridge can remain as a dorsal hump and how it is reconstructed after removal

In a case where residual artificial dermis from a previous procedure formed a dorsal hump and weakened the septal support, the artificial dermis was dissected and removed, lateral osteotomy and dorsal hump reduction were performed, the nasal tip was reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage, and the silicone implant was replaced.

A dorsal hump, drooping tip, and rhinitis-related nasal obstruction were addressed by resecting the hump, combining autologous rib cartilage and a silicone implant, and performing nasolabial angle and septal correction.

Common questions before reading the cases

Are there cases where a dorsal hump on a small nose was corrected?

In cases where simply shaving down a dorsal hump could make an already small nose appear even smaller, our records show instances where the hump was corrected while addressing overall volume. These cases consider the overall size of the nose rather than just the hump protrusion itself. Even within the topic of dorsal hump reduction, it is helpful to compare the preoperative nasal height with the target profile line.

Can an implant be used while smoothing down a dorsal hump?

There are recorded cases where, after smoothing down an uneven dorsal hump along the nasal bridge, a silicone implant carved to match the shape of the nasal bone was inserted. These records show that both reduction and augmentation were performed within the same surgery. Rather than assuming dorsal hump reduction always means no implant or an overall decrease in height, please review the actual materials used and the specific dorsal bridge techniques.
