Hello, I am Dr. Peter C. Kang.
Today, I would like to introduce the case of a patient who improved a severe dorsal hump and nasal obstruction using only autologous rib cartilage.
🔎 Initial consultation findings
Large nose and severe dorsal hump
Long and drooping nasal shape
Drooping nasal tip due to an acute nasolabial angle
Right deviated septum
Inferior turbinate hypertrophy
✨ Patient's requests
Wished for surgery using only autologous tissue
Improvement of nasal obstruction
Dorsal hump correction
Natural result

✅ Surgical results
Function
Improvement of nasal obstruction
Septal cartilage transitioned into a stable structure
Both nasal cavities widened
2. Front view
Narrowed nasal bone lines

4. Nostril view
Improved nostril asymmetry
Naturally corrected wide nasal tip
👨⚕️ Specialist's assessment
In this case, the patient visited NOSELAB primarily due to functional discomfort. The patient had a large nose and requested that surgery proceed using only autologous rib cartilage. Due to a particularly severe deviated septum, septal reconstruction was necessary during surgery, and using autologous rib cartilage allowed us to secure structural stability. Through dorsal hump correction and improvement of the nasolabial angle, we were able to achieve an overall harmonious result.
This was Dr. Peter C. Kang. Thank you.
Thank you.

Limitations and risks
When autologous rib cartilage is used, scarring and pain may remain at the donor site on the chest, and pneumothorax (pleural injury) can occur rarely. Over time, the grafted cartilage may warp or undergo partial resorption.
When the septum is corrected at the same time, nasal obstruction may persist or recur, and in rare cases, septal perforation or changes in smell may occur.
Common potential risks include infection, bleeding, asymmetry, scarring, skin necrosis, and insufficient improvement; results vary depending on individual skin condition and previous surgical history.
